What’s been your experience of being an apprentice at Keller?

I really enjoy working for Keller, from working as part of a team in the offices to going on site visits, the experience has been brilliant. One of the main factors that has really made my time enjoyable is the people culture. On site and in different office departments everyone has been very approachable, offering support and help when needed. As an apprentice I’m learning every day, the support I have been offered through out my time at Keller has been excellent and I have really felt part of a great team.

Throughout my apprenticeship I have not only gained a wealth of knowledge from a quantity surveying perspective but I have also been seconded into the procurement and accounts departments. Throughout my rotations I have been able to understand fully the different processes as well as putting them into practice myself.

What has been the best/most enjoyable part of the apprenticeship so far?

It’d be hard to just pick one aspect of my apprenticeship that I have enjoyed the most.

From a practical side I have loved going out onto the HS2 sites and experiencing the different type of techniques that Keller provide and I look forward to doing more of this in the upcoming years to expand my knowledge. As well as this I have loved working throughout the commercial team, creating reports that link to the production of sites and being able to understand and interpretate ground condition data collating the data into a report overview.

What do you want to do at the end of your apprenticeship?

I would like to become chartered through the RICS, I’m currently working on my APC at the minute and by the time I complete my apprenticeship, I hope to be in the later stages on the Chartership program reaching towards the end point assessment.

I would love to continue to work to the end of the BKJV project as it would be great to see the end of our involvement with this section of HS2. After the project I would then aspire to be involved in other main projects and if the opportunity was to arise work in other countries that Keller operate in, such as, Australia.
